We ordered the bikes, a Road King each 5 months ago. Without question we both wanted the candy red option. Turns out that was just about the only colour in the 2017 range that was in short supply. New Zealand orders through Australia, Australia though Singapore etc, so the order turned out to pretty complex and time consuming-frustrating!!
In the end, we had to get black bikes brought in and have them painted red. Not quite the perfect colour match, but hey, its been 5 months of waiting, we just want to ride!
The Road Kind 2017 is a pretty big bike, and when I first saw it I thought hmmmnn can I ride that!! I've been riding for 16 years, starting out on a Suzuki Volty to get my license, then a Triumph Bonniville, then a Harley Davidson Sportster, then a Harley Davison Deuce. Every bike change was a nervous step up for me, but the Road King seemed like a big step.
I had my husband ride them both home from the dealership once they were ready. I followed behind him on each journey home in my car and was just in awe of the look of the bikes. I'm so pleased that for the first time we both have the same bike. The red colour of the paint, the beautiful fleck as the sun catches the paintwork, the big panniers and tank-and all that chrome! -really, a work of art.
This ongoing blog is about how I am coming to grips with my 2017 Road King and the planned trips we have made. When I'm not riding I'm an artist. I'll be painting out on the road.
