My approach to watercolour is built on transparency and layering. I may use dozens of transparent washes to develop a single passage of colour, allowing earlier hues to remain luminous beneath those that follow. Reds and blues may build a purple; yellows may glow beneath deep browns. I am drawn to richness and depth — to colour that seems illuminated from within — while retaining the transparency that makes watercolour unique.
